VI. Ports Commands

The ports command node includes the following subnode commands:

  • down

  • modify

  • show

  • up

Each of the subnode commands is described in detail, with parameters and arguments listed for each command.

Examples of command usage are included in the discussions.

Table of Contents
ports down — Use the ports down command to disable a network port.

ports down

Name

ports down -- Use the ports down command to disable a network port.

Synopsis

CLI:

ports down -ssid spinserver -netportname network_port_name

GUI: Navigate to the Ports node, then select the appropriate port from the table and run the Down command from the drop-down menu of the action pane.

Description

The ports down command identifies a network port by its SpinServer and network port name and disables it.

Options

-ssid spinserver

This is the ID given to the SpinServer.

-netportname network_port_name

This is the name of the port to be disabled.

Example

The following command example disables an interface named serv1 on a server named Server1.

spinserver::> ports down -ssid Server1 -netportname serv1

ports modify

Name

ports modify -- Use the ports modify command to modify the attributes of a port.

Synopsis

CLI:

ports modify -ssid spinserver -netportname network_port_name -mtu maximum_transmission_unit -autonegotiate {true | false} -fullduplex {true | false} -speed speed

GUI: Navigate to the Ports node, then select the appropriate port from the table and run the Show command from the drop-down menu of the action pane. In the table that is displayed, make the appropriate modifications, then run the Modify command from the drop-down menu.

Description

The ports modify command identifies a port and modifies the maximum transmission unit size. An MTU is the largest physical packet size, measured in bytes, that a network can transmit. Any messages larger than the MTU are divided into smaller packets before being sent. By default, server ports have an MTU value of 1500 bytes, which can be changed. Cluster ports are set to a default MTU value of 9000 bytes, which can be changed.

Options

-ssid spinserver

This is the ID given to the SpinServer.

-netportname network_port_name

This is the name of the port whose MTU is to be modified.

-mtu maximum_transmission_unit

This is the MTU size. The default values are 1500 for a server port and 9000 for a cluster port.

-autonegotiate {true | false}

This specifies whether autonegotiation is enabled. The default is true.

-fullduplex {true | false}

This specifies whether full duplexing is enabled. The default is true.

-speed speed

This specifies the port speed.

Example

The following command example identifies a port named serv1 on a server named Server1 and modifies the maximum transmission unit size to 9000 bytes, the autonegotiation value to true, the full duplexing value to false, and the port speed to 1000.

spinserver::> ports modify -ssid Server1 -netportname serv1 -mtu 9000 -autonegotiate true -fullduplex false -speed 1000

ports show

Name

ports show -- Use the ports show command to display general configuration information about all ports or specific information about one port.

Synopsis

CLI:

ports show [-ssid spinserver -netportname network_port_name]

GUI: Navigate to the Ports node. To display information about a specific port, select it from the table and run the Show command from the drop-down menu in the action pane.

Description

The ports show command displays information about one network port or all network ports. After identification is made, the following information about the network port or ports is displayed by the system:

To display information about one network port, use the command with the parameters. To display configuration information about a list of ports on the network, use no parameters.

Options

[-ssid spinserver]

This is the ID given to the SpinServer. This parameter is optional; however, if it is used, the -netportname parameter must also be specified.

[-netportname network_port_name]

This is the name of the port. This parameter is optional; however, if it is used, the -ssid parameter must also be specified.

Example

The following command example displays configuration information for all network ports:

spinserver::> ports show
SpinServer ID Name MTU Status Auto Full Speed
                                      Negoti Duplex

p416            clus0  1500    up     true   true   1000
p416            clus1  1500    up     true   true   1000
p416            mgmt0  1500    up
p416            serv1  1500    up     true   true   1000
p416            serv0  1500    up     true   true   1000
p48             mgmt0  1500    up
p48             clus0  1500    up     true   true   1000
p48             serv1  1500    up     true   true   1000
p48             clus1  1500    up     true   true   1000
p48             serv0  1500    up     true   true   1000

The following example displays configuration information for a network port named serv1 on a server named Server1.

spinserver::> ports show -ssid Server1 -netportname serv1
   SpinServer ID    Server1
